Ecuador stands in solidarity with the victims of the attack in Quebec
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, regarding yesterday's attack on the Islamic Cultural Center of Quebec City, which has left 6 dead and 18 wounded at the moment, deeply regrets the facts and strongly condemns all acts of violence. At the same time, sympathizes with the victims and their families and with the Government of Canada in these hours of mourning.

I refer to the opinion article "Canadian union wrong to cozy up to regressive regime", published on February 5, 2016, written by Ms. Candice Malcolm. In her article, she questions the Union of Food and Commercial Workers -UFCW-, which the author herself describes as a progressive Union, for having visited Ecuador and had the opportunity to verify the environmental disaster caused there by what is now the transnational oil company Chevron.

Negotiation on final terms of the contract for exploitation in Fruta del Norte, between the government and the Company Lundin Gold is complete. On Thursday, during a press conference, Ron Hochstein, CEO at the Canadian company, highlighted the country’s geological potential and affirmed “investing in Ecuador is a unique opportunity in life.” Fruta del Norte (FDN) is a gold field discovered in 2006, located in the province of Zamora Chinchipe.
