On March 12, 2019, the 2019 Edition of the Ambassador of the Year Award and Public Diplomacy was held. This contest is organized annually by the Faculty of Civil and Common Law of the University of Ottawa, in collaboration with the Deanship of the Diplomatic Corps of Canada and the International Public Diplomacy Council. The Ambassador of Ecuador in Canada, Diego Stacey Moreno, was awarded “Ambassador of the Year 2019” for the South American region.
The awards were delivered by the representative of the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps of Canada. The winners were based on the results of an online public survey that asked respondents for their favorite embassy in seven regions: North and Central America; South America; Europe; Middle East; Africa; Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania; and Asia (not belonging to Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania).
These awards are based on the following criteria: country brand promotion; level of relationship with public institutions and civil society in Canada; quality of events; presence in the media; positioning through public relations and image in the community.

The Embassy of Ecuador is pleased with the decision of Air Canada to operate the Toronto-Quito route from December 8, 2019. The Embassy has been part of this important milestone, through the ongoing efforts made with Air Canada During the last two years, in collaboration with the Representation of Ecuador at ICAO and the Commercial Office in Toronto, within the framework of the implementation of the Air Transport Agreement between Ecuador and Canada. The Embassy highlights the willingness and openness of Air Canada executives, in particular Ms. Daniela Mauro, Mr. David Waugh, and Ms. Karim Rachi. We are confident that the opening of this air route will consolidate tourist, commercial, educational and cultural ties between Ecuador and Canada. This achievement contributes to strengthen the excellent state of bilateral relations between both countries.
