Communiqué 2 – Important information for travellers visiting Ecuador regarding measures taken by the Ecuadorian Government concerning the COVID-19 international outbreak

  • Every traveller who enters the Galapagos Islands will have a medical examination to prevent COVID-19.
  • On March the 04 the Technical Secretariat of the Governing Council of the Special Galapagos Regime resolved several measures against the international outbreak of COVID-19:
  • Travellers who wish to enter the Galapagos Islands, through ports and airports will be evaluated by medical personnel of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health in accordance with the established protocols. This measure also determines that if a traveller presents respiratory symptoms that meet the definition established by the World Health Organization for COVID-19-, the personnel of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health will evaluate the risk and relevance of allowing or not the entrance of the traveller to the Galapagos Islands.
  • Traffic control technicians of the Governing Council of the Special Galapagos Regime, in coordination with officials of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health, will hold a migration interview with the travellers who have plans to enter the islands. The goal of this measure is to establish a record of the countries previously visited by the travellers and the time of permanence in the Galapagos Islands.

-The Technical Secretariat of the Governing Council of the Special Galapagos Regime informs to the community that there are NO suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Galapagos Islands and that the local authorities continue to strengthen prevention measures.
