Baltazar Ushka, the Frozen Time
Directed by Igor and José Antonio Guayasamín, 22 minutes, 2008. French subtitles.
At the Chimborazo volcano, the highest in the world in relation to the center of the earth, more than 5,000 meters high, works Baltazar Ushka. For decades he has been chopping large pieces of ice from the heights of the Chimborazo volcano to sell them in the city. In the past this very difficult job was done by Baltazar’s entire community, now he is the only one who does that. This documentary is an exploration of the worldview of the Andean inhabitants of Ecuador and, at the same time, a deep and circular portrait of an unforgettable character. José Guayasamín will be presenting his documentary.
José Antonio Guayasamín (1979) is a film director and editor. José graduated from The National School of Experimentation and Filmmaking, Argentina. His social documentaries have participated in more than 40 international festivals. He currently lives in Canada working on independent film projects.
Casandro, the Exotico
Directed by Marie Losier, 73 minutes, 2018. French subtitles.
